Frequently asked questions
Straight answers on choosing AI tools for a home-service business, and how this directory works.
How do I choose the right AI tool for my trade business?
Start with the problem that costs you the most money. For most shops that is missed calls, slow quotes or follow-up that never happens. Pick one category (an AI receptionist, field service software, estimating or review management), shortlist two or three tools that list your trade, and run a free trial or demo on real jobs before you commit.
What does an AI receptionist actually do?
It answers your business line, asks the caller the questions you set, and either books the job, takes a message, or texts a booking link. Some plans only take messages; in-call booking and integrations with field service software are often on higher tiers, so check what each plan includes.
Do I need field service software before adding AI tools?
Not always, but it helps. Many AI receptionists and marketing tools book straight into platforms like Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan. If you already run one, look for AI tools that list an integration with it so jobs land in one place.
How much do these tools cost?
It varies widely, from low-cost self-serve plans to quote-only enterprise pricing. Each listing shows the pricing the vendor publishes or that third-party comparisons report, with the date we last reviewed it. Always confirm current pricing on the vendor's site.
Are the prices on HomeTrade AI guaranteed?
No. Pricing is as published or reported as of 2026-10-16. Vendors change plans often, so treat our figures as a starting point and confirm on the vendor's site.
Should a small shop buy ServiceTitan?
ServiceTitan is built for larger residential and commercial operations and is quote-only per technician. Our listing calls it overkill for small shops; tools like Jobber or Housecall Pro publish entry plans aimed at smaller crews.
What should I test during a free trial?
Use real scenarios: call your own line after hours, send a quote request, and check that the booking, message or quote shows up where your team works. Note how long setup took and whether pricing changes once you go past the trial limits.
Will AI replace my office staff?
For most trade businesses it works best as backup: catching after-hours and overflow calls, handling routine questions, and freeing your team for work that needs a person. Some services, like Smith.ai, combine AI with human receptionists as a backstop.
How are tools selected for the directory?
We list real products that serve home-service businesses, sorted by category and the trades they serve, each with a short independent verdict. Basic listings are free.
How do featured and top-spot placements work?
Tool makers can buy a $49 one-time featured listing (badge, highlight, pinned in their category) or a $99/month top spot (placement on relevant trade pages plus a newsletter mention, cancel anytime). Paid placements are always labeled, and they do not change our verdicts.
How do I get my tool listed or fix my listing?
Email wylie@aipeakbiz.com with your tool's name, website, pricing and the trades you serve. Free listings and corrections are handled by email; paid upgrades are on the Get Featured page.
